BONUS ITEM: Guitar & Bass Tabs

To make these cover versions, I worked out a lot of parts originally for pianos, harps, synths and other instruments for 6-string guitar and 5-string bass - as well as particular tunings to make certain riffs playable in certain styles and positions on the neck.

I couldn't find any guitar or bass tabs elsewhere for some of these parts so I've worked them out by painstakingly adapting MIDI-notated parts for other instruments.

Download includes a PDF which contains a link to download the tabs in various formats, including PDF and project files for the free MuseScore 4 notation app.

about

I'm delighted to share the 2nd album in my trilogy covering and updating some of my favourite music from the PlayStation 1 FF games - Final Fantasy VII, VIII & IX!

'Disc Two' is the Final Fantasy VIII portion of this project, featuring some of my favourite tracks from this game. I think VIII arguably has some of the best songs from the entire series and there's lots of really cool prog rock / fusion riffs, some fun electronic music and relaxing neo-classical tracks.

Adding aesthetics from styles such as IDM, Breakcore, Metal, Jazz-Fusion, Hip-Hop, Prog-Rock, Math-Rock, Electronica and more into Nobuo Uematsu's classic tracks, these albums is a nostalgic love-letter focused on remaining authentic & respectful to the original tones, structures & arrangements of specifically the PS1 versions of these tunes.

These are basically concept albums that serve as a blueprint for an imagined gig idea I have in my head, and I've aimed to make this album sound almost like a live recording of a real band combining electronic beats & sound design.

For certain key sounds, I’ve tried to find out exactly what gear Nobuo Uematsu used to compose these scores and happen to own one thing he had by chance; the EMU Proteus 2000.

I’ve combed almost every preset on this, managed to find certain identical percussion and instrument sounds used on the original scores and have re-recorded them directly from the unit to use in these versions.

I’ll be posting updates and news on my socials on the progress of all this, so keep an eye out for more soon.

I've written some articles going into more detail about this project:
